After interning in the Rutland High School IT Department with Dan Roswell for 2.5 years, I transitioned to the Castleton University IT Department while attending classes there, under suggestion of Forest Immel. I worked in this position approximately 10-20h/week while classes were in session and full-time during holiday/winter/summer breaks. During my time at Castleton I imaged several hundred machines and maintained a database of system images, including both Windows 7/10 and OS X, including faculty personal computers, classroom labs, and devices donated to charitable organizations.
On a daily basis I received about 20 phone calls from students, staff and faculty requesting support and maintained a database of support tickets, traveling on-site when required. As I graduated on to tier 2 IT support, I assisted in the modernization and repair of our networks physical infrastructure, including our phone system, SymQuest printing system and our campuses complex network of ethernet switches. I was responsible for learning the intricacies of specific administrative software and their relation to our secure network and assented in department-wide software and technology transitions.
I was also tasked with maintaining correspondence with our Info Tech department. While working in the CU IT Department I was afforded the opportunity to learn not only the full scope of the systems our department was responsible for within the Vermont State College network, but also the structure of our universities administration as well.
