- Provides and documents care to patients under the direction of the RN, to include safe, comfortable, and confident environment.
- Participates as a team member to ensure appropriate resources to all internal /external customers.
- Responsible for pre-registration and bed assignment for admission of patients in assigned area.
- Maintains current medical records and order entry on all unit patients.
- Performs other patient comfort duties needed to maintain the flow of patient care within the system.
- Assist medical or licensed nursing staff before, during, and after patient's treatment program by escorting patients to and from surgery, clinics, and other hospital units.
- Demonstrate safe utilization of unit and hospital emergency care equipment and techniques.
- Encourage patients to develop and maintain muscle tone and range of motion to increase ability to perform daily living activities.
- Maintain infection control by using universal precautions.
- Measure and record patient's height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration, intake and outtake of fluids.
- Observe patients for adverse reactions, recognize problems, and report changes in patients' condition to the Registered Nurse.
- Obtain and label urine and stool specimens for laboratory examination.
- Perform basic cleaning in surgical area by cleaning instruments and other equipment and restocking supplies.
- Perform nursing assistant duties such as position, ambulate, transfer, and turn bed-ridden patients.
- Perform treatments and procedures such as administering enteral feedings, colostomy care, and administering enemas.
- Perform routine hospital techniques for bathing, feeding, lifting, making beds and caring for patient's clothing and other property.
- Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position.
