My name is Maritza Ortiz, a recent graduate of the University of California, Merced; who majored in Sociology and minored in Anthropology. In the midst of being a full time student and focusing on civic and community work, I also was very adamant in pursuing opportunities that would further improve the quality of my work and detail orientation in order to create growth in any workspace I find myself in.
Whilst exploring the side of civil and community work I was able to learn administrative skills to generate exemplary work for students and faculty who faced legal repercussions in my university's Law Clinic department. Not only was I trusted with bridging students and faculties with legal aid but also had to conduct reports for each legal case presented at the Law clinic. This sparked an initiative within me and I undertook the role of planning and arranging the scheduling of each case's appointments, follow-ups, and documentation deadlines; for both legal aid and individual asking assistance.
Within my time at my University I also was executive chair of community building and service for different organizations at my school such as Hermanos Unidos of UC Merced, Central Americans for Empowerment and lastly AFSCME 3299. Hermanos Unidos of UC Merced and Central Americans for Empowerment were both very similar positions despite being different organizations. I accomplished within my executive chair position to run smoothly the community service events these organizations put together for the Merced public. I connected local foundations to the organizations in order to have collaborative events to increase the level of student engagement in community service. I as well have shadowed and assisted Carla Pennington, Executive Producer for several shows at Paramount Pictures. I would not only pitch ideas with a team for the shows she oversees but as well had the opportunity of structuring her schedule for her day to day work life. I drafted letters, emails and performed research for article ideas that would cover segments on shows.
I received my Bachelor's from University of California, Merced.
