Matthew Berry

I am a Commerce student at the University of Virginia with interests in sports business, finance, marketing, and data analysis. I am passionate about soccer and enjoy learning about both the competitive and business sides of professional sports. Through my coursework and experience using tools such as Excel, Tableau, and R, I have developed strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

In addition to academics, I have gained customer service and teamwork experience through my work at NAVSTA Newport Officer’s Club, where I work in fast-paced environments and assist with events and operations. I enjoy collaborating with others, learning new skills, and gaining hands-on experience in the sports and business industries.

Food Runner at NAVSTA Newport - Officer's Club (2024-06 – Present)

• Prepares restaurant for opening by setting up tables, stocking supplies, and ensuring cleanliness, enables a smooth start to service and reduced setup time for team
• Served food to guests, cleaned dishes and kitchenware, and maintained dining and prep areas, helped sustain a high standard of overall service flow
• Entrusted with additional responsibilities such as prepping special events and performing routine facility maintenance, supported event readiness and ensured restaurant stayed in top condition

Food Runner at Diego's Barrio Cantina (2022-06 – 2022-08)

• Couriered meals from kitchen to guests and supported servers by bussing tables and clearing used dishes helped to maintain a smooth front-of-house operation
• Cooperated with trash removal and general cleanup tasks, contributing to a clean and organized dining environment throughout service hours
