I am a school teacher who is looking for work as an education writer. In the state of New Mexico, I am licensed to teach elementary (K-8), language arts (7-12), social studies (7-12), gifted education (K-12) and computer technology education (K-12). I currently teach a fifth and sixth grade combination class in Northern New Mexico.
I have a bachelor's degree in political science and minor journalism. My master's degree is in special education. I previously taught special education and regular education middle school. Prior to entering the field of education, I was a newspaper reporter, photographer and public relations writer for the federal government.
Espanola Public School District, 2022 to present
Currently teach fifth and sixth grade at Velarde Elementary School in the Espanola Public School District. As a regular education classroom teacher, I differentiate instruction for students who are on an IEP or have a SAT. I implement STEM and project-based learning to a mixed group of learners, including English Language Learners. Also serve as an after-school coordinator, where I help students complete homework, plan projects and manage a teaching staff.
Jemez Mountain Public Schools, 2019 to 2022
Special education and regular education teacher: Teach grades 6-8 in a regular education classroom. Engage students through structured literacy, creative based learning and problem-based learning. Published a school newspaper that showcased Lybrook’s Navajo culture and achievements.
Obtained a grant for Lexia, a dyslexia intervention program, which has been implemented throughout the district. Collaborated with colleagues to differentiate instruction for students with disabilities and English Language Learners.
Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools, 2011 to 2019
Special Education Teacher Case Manager: Worked with regular education classroom teachers to differentiate instruction and implement IEP modifications for students in grades 6 through 8. Helped students set and obtain career goals. Previously case managed at Santa Rosa Elementary School and Santa Rosa High School.
