My interest in marketing started in high school, and I started taking marketing classes with my creative spin on the projects. I remember the scenarios we had with our client, such as creating a complete Instagram account for a start-up boutique. I got my first job at Under Armour, an athletic wear store, where sales representatives got monthly competitions.
The competitions recognized the sales representatives with the highest sales would get one of their products, like shoes or a jacket, for free. Being a part of this competition helped me open up to customers and myself. Once completing the sales, customers had fun because it felt like they were getting to see who I was.
The competitions were a trill for my coworkers and me, leading me to love marketing.
From what I learned, working at Under Armour gave me skills once switching to work at the YMCA. I worked at YMCA as an after-school childcare counselor, where it was essential to work as a team. Working in an environment where multiple possibilities are endless, it was essential to communicate with coworkers to figure out the best solution.
Before, I had to deal with up to 50 kids with other coworkers having different ideas causing the whole day to be a mess. I learned the best option was to meet with our coworkers before the kids showed up with ideas for the rest of the day. This skill has taught me well, primarily as I currently work as a Pharmacist Technician at Walgreens.
As a Technician, working in a job where you have to multitask has become a skill.
I am currently still learning skills and am directed to grow more. If you are interested in marketing, too, connect with me!
