If you would have told me in high school that I would be pursuing a career in cybersecurity, I wouldn't believe you. The thought never entered my mind as I was set on pursuing a career in healthcare. Now that I've been bitten by the cyber bug, I can't imagine pursuing anything else.
I've always been into learning how to craft the perfect plan rather that be a jiujitsu/boxing sequence, creating an electronic music track, or trying to create the perfect rehabilitation plan for a client. Learning how things work and creating projects using those building blocks are what really bring me satisfaction in life. This curiosity and passion for creating inevitably led me into the world of cyber.
My first exposure to cyber security happened when a local hospital close to where I was working at the time was the victim of a ransomware attack. I didn't think much of it at the time other than "Huh, I wonder how you would stop that," but the seed was planted. Now several years later, I have decided to plunge into the world of cybersecurity through Louisiana State University's Cyber Bootcamp!
I am currently working on getting my CompTIA Sec+ and CySA+ certifications as well as learning various tools for both blue and red team. Some of these security tools include Wireshark, Nmap, Snort, Splunk, Metasploit, and John the Ripper. I am also increasing my working knowledge of other cybersecurity concepts such as Linux, networking, and python.
Along with these skills, I try to apply my healthcare managerial experience and my communication skills from sales in the constant collaborative team environment.
As I finish up my Cybersecurity Bootcamp this coming January, I hope to be a part of a SOC Analyst Team!
