I want to use the skills I have accrued so far to pursue a career in law, but above all, I want to help people. This is why I'm looking for an internship this summer where I can do just that.
When I joined Mock Trial in high school, I thought I wanted to be a genetics researcher. 5 years later, I now know that I want to go into public interest law and use my writing and research skills to make a positive difference in people's lives.
While I have been a student at Miami University, I've had many opportunities to develop my research skills. Here are some examples:
- Doing research comparing and analyzing the role of media in distributing "The Decameron" in both the Late Renaissance and the 21st Century on a research internship grant
- Researching a plethora of topics for over 40 articles published in The Miami Student Newspaper
- Interviewing my grandmother to help with my translation of her biography of my great-grandfather, a general in the Chinese Nationalist Army
I also believe volunteering and getting politically involved are essential to strengthening our democracy and society. These are some things I've done recently:
- Served as the Head Speechwriter for the Sam Lawrence Ohio House campaign in 2022, canvassing and helping Sam (a former Gen-Z candidate) prepare as much as possible for debates
- Performed the violin regularly for nursing home residents during Holiday seasons and the summer
- Organized a video game tournament in High School, raising hundreds of dollars for the Oxford Family Resource Center
Finally, I have developed leadership and on-the-job skills that have challenged me and given me the chance to grow as a person. These include:
- Turning Miami's chess club from a 6-person online practice to a 20+ member club with regular tournaments and building a community as President of the club
- Leading the Miami University Academic team and creating numerous presentations on trivia topics to help out newer players
- Working as a chess instructor and working closely with a student to develop their chess skills
