Stephanie Snee is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Orange County, California. Raised in the Pacific Northwest, she moved to Laguna Beach in 2008 to pursue art. She received her BFA in Illustration and Fine Art from Laguna College of Art and Design in 2012.
Since then, Snee has become a mother, muralist, and cake decorator, while developing her studio art. She works in pen&ink and oil paint primarily, in her Costa Mesa studio. Her work is influenced by family relationships and an upbringing in a dark and wet suburb surrounded by forest and farmland.
She grew up very independent with a lot of time for introspection and observation.
When she is not working on commissions or portraits, Snee pays homage to the creatures observed at zoos, museums, and out in nature. With an interest in biology, and psychology, painting allowed for a beautiful partnership of scientific observation, self-expression, and a connection to nature. Natural elements serve as symbolic metaphors to understand human sentiment and are universally relatable, accessible, and at the same time intimate, with our truths echoed in the natural world.
