Lab Technician - VPS Testing and Inspection - La Porte, Tx

• Unpacks incoming samples and ensures all required documentation is present (AWB, BDN, Detail Form, Witness of Sample).
• Registers samples and transfers them to the laboratory for sample sealing and clipping.
• Performs various preparatory laboratory tasks in accordance with instructions or under the guidance of the Laboratory Manager or Assistant Manager.
• Receives, unpacks, and identifies samples (e.g., diesels, fuels, lubricants), ensuring all related documentation is properly stapled together, and disposes of empty containers and packaging.
• Prepares samples by pouring, shaking, and heating as required for testing.
• Prepares glassware, ensuring proper numbering and cleanliness.
• Replenishes reagents as needed and maintains workstation readiness for subsequent operations.
• Analyzes samples using appropriate laboratory equipment, setting up and operating the designated workstation in compliance with protocols.
• Conducts routine quality checks on laboratory equipment, recording values on the QC chart, and following procedures to address any abnormal results.
• Monitors the progress of testing procedures and, if necessary, restarts equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Assesses test results to verify that all samples have been tested correctly; conducts retests when necessary and checks reproducibility.
• Records test results, communicates any abnormal findings or significant issues related to the sample, and promptly notifies the manager.
• Maintains a clean and organized laboratory and workspace.
• Follows proper disposal procedures in accordance with VPS environmental requirements.
• Assists with checking work at other stations and provides support to laboratory technicians and chemists as needed.
• Performs periodic maintenance and calibration of test equipment to ensure accuracy.

• Adheres to company policies and regulations regarding occupational health, safety, and quality standards.
• Proficient in GCMS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) for qualitative and quantitative analysis; skilled in interpreting chromatograms to identify contaminants and confirm sample composition.
• Experienced in vacuum distillation and acid extraction for the separation and purification of chemical mixtures under controlled conditions.
• Capable of writing detailed lab reports, documenting findings and interpretations in accordance with industry and regulatory standards.
• Strong attention to detail in detecting impurities or foreign substances in complex chemical samples.
• Performs any other tasks as assigned by management.
