Thomas Brophy

I believe in, practice, and teach service learning, cultural literacy, social engagement, creative expression, and critical reflection. More importantly, data supports that student engagement and achievement, as well as parent satisfaction, increase because of my pedagogic practices. Obviously, no cover letter or resume can contain my years of instructional experiences, so I’ll highlight a few other talking points below.

In addition to almost 2 decades of designing and delivering highly-effective, interdisciplinary, experiential instruction across international, public, and private settings, I :

• speak, comprehend, read, and write Russian at an advanced level (scholarships in ‘98 & ‘99)
• study, practice, compose, and perform jazz inspired music
• took Franciscan vows of spiritual poverty, chastity, and obedience
• have lived around the country and world
• enjoy carpentry, hiking, and gardening
• coach soccer
• test well (199/200 PRAXIS II)
• advise National Junior Honor Society students
• assist international students and families
• raise 4 lovely girls of whom I am very proud

After 2 decades of designing and delivering highly-effective, interdisciplinary, experiential instruction in international, public, and private settings, I still love teaching: modeling positive relationships, building habits of mind, creating lasting memories, and hopefully inspiring a lifelong childlike curiosity to discover.

I am a highly qualified and licensed 7-12 professional educator who scored 199/200 on the English Literature and Composition PRAXIS II.

I am an organized and highly efficient analyst who synthesizes data into actionable and understandable student centered projects. I scaffold and layer lessons with measurable objectives for concept mastery.

I have a well documented history of building community partnerships and developing successful outreach programs.

I thrive in entrepreneurial environments because I am a natural polymath who excels when faced with ‘all hands on deck’ collaborations.

I believe in the value of service learning, community engagement, creative expression, and critical reflection.

I am a father to 4 girls, a petit-academic, an ever-aspiring-musician/composer, a part-time summer-farm-hand, construction-laborer, and outdoors-adventurer.
