I am an artist and teacher. I worked as a hand-drawn Clean-up Animator for Walt Disney Studios for over twelve years. I helped to create such films as Aladdin, Lion King, Tarzan, Mulan and Lilo & Stitch. I also was the lead on Donald Duck for the Fantasia 2000 short “Pomp and Circumstance”, and helped storyboard an early version of the finale for that same film. You can see more of my credits on my IMBd page.
Because I am a fast artist that could draw any character, After Mulan, I was cast onto the Miscellaneous Crew. It was less glamorous a casting than a main character, but it was perfect for me. I got to be in charge of many minor characters, and was challenged with different characters almost every week.
When Disney closed their hand-drawn animation studio, I put my storytelling and character design abilities to use, and opened my own business creating giant wood relief murals for Children’s Ministries in churches around the country. These can be seen on my website.
In 2015 I opened my own art school in the suburbs of Chicago with the focus of strengthening drawing skills and assisting students in creating strong portfolios for college acceptance. I have had students accepted into DePaul University, The Art Institute of Chicago, SCAD, and Ringling College of Art and Design to name a few. Due to the pandemic in 2020, I made the choice to close the school.
I still teach a few art classes on-line. My teaching style encourages the fun in drawing for all my students, and I teach with a certain amount of show business. My website contains many aspects of my art and examples I created for students.
You’ll see that I use robots and mechs as props sometimes to reinforce keeping shapes in alignment.
I’ve always had an interest in comics and have been teaching a comic class for over ten years. My comics tend to be on the silly side because my audience has been my students who I try to inspire and provoke conversation through critical thought. It’s been a successful vehicle for generating excitement for the art of storytelling.
