I am Ziyuan (Sam) Wu, an architectural designer driven by the transformative power of design across various scales, from adaptive reuse to cutting-edge digital fabrication. With a Master of Science in Design (Advanced Architectural Design) from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, my approach is rooted in blending cultural, environmental, and technological dimensions to create thoughtful, context-sensitive solutions.
My portfolio spans a range of projects, from the adaptive reuse of post-industrial structures like the White Chapel Project, to large-scale civic and cultural designs, including competition entries for the Yichang Grand Theatre and the New Aga Khan Museum of Islamic Art. I focus on sustainability and material reuse, leveraging deconstructed materials to create functional, cost-efficient structures. My work explores the intersection of architecture, game design, virtual reality, and nature, with a strong emphasis on reimagining urban spaces.
As part of MABU Design LLC and through internships at OPEN Architecture and Penda China, I’ve contributed to award-winning projects, applying advanced tools such as Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, and Unreal Engine to drive innovation. From façade designs for the New York Stock Exchange Server Hub to the sustainable design of the Food Lab in New York, my work emphasizes environmental sensitivity, structural optimization, and material reuse.
Connect with me as I continue exploring new ways architecture can serve communities, enhance urban resilience, and create meaningful cultural exchanges. Let's collaborate to build a sustainable and innovative future.
