Aimee Johnson

I am a MA Psychology student at the Stellenbosch University. My research thesis specializes in the perceptions of mental health amongst primary school learners in the Western Cape, South Africa.

My interests are in mental health, education and youth development with a particular interest in the well-being of children and young people in underprivileged communities.

My professional experience includes lecturing at a tertiary institution, being a research assistant and a career guidance facilitator.

1.Lecturer: Helderberg College of Higher Education in South Africa.

The sub-discipline I lectured in was Developmental Psychology with the following responsibilities:

• Designed, developed and delivered teaching material via an e-learning environment (Zoom, google classroom, Google meets)
• Checked and assessed students' work
• Online classroom management. 

2. Research Assistant: Stellenbosch University

• Assisted and facilitated a CBT-based psychoeducational intervention (4STMF) which supported the psychological wellbeing among primary school learners in the Western Cape.

3. Career guidance facilitator: Stellenbosch University

• Assisted and facilitated a Project aimed at helping Grade 9 learners in low resource communities with career guidance specific to their subject choices.

Master of Arts in Psychology: Thesis

This programme, which requires a minimum of one year of study, focuses on the acquisition and broadening of knowledge in a specific area of psychology. It also aims at the development of research skills, particularly with respect to the planning and execution of research and the reporting of research results. My research study focuses on the perceptions of mental health and mental health-related stigma amongst primary school learners within the Western Cape, South Africa.
