Engineering Technician with extensive years of experience in technical environment within defence and marine. Technologies; ranging from Radar, Sonar, telecommunication, Navigation, Automation and Control Systems, Sensors, MCV (Motorised Control Valves) and Actuators and Process Control. In depth understanding of Mechanical systems onboard the Frigates, Auxiliary Ship, Mine Hunters Ships, Tug-boards, Survey Ship and Submarines.

Most of my experience is in the Marine and Defence environments. Well acquainted with Naval processes and culture and environment.

System Engineer - Siemens Energy SA - Naval Base, Simons Town

Delivered an exceptional support to the SA Naval Frigates Ships, Auxiliary Ship, Mine Hunters Ships, Tug-boards, Survey Ship and Submarines for their operational readiness and preventative maintenance and refit schedules. Mainly responsible for the IPMS (Integrated Platform Management System) onboard Frigates and submarines, which is made up of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system and PLCs (Siemens, Schneider, Modicom), Sensors (Temperature Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer, IR Sensor (Infrared Sensor), Pressure Sensor, Light Sensor, Ultrasonic Sensor, Smoke and Heat Sensor, Touch Sensor, Humidity Sensor, Flow and Level Sensor). All the monitoring and control is done through the IPMS.

Preventative maintenance and system training for personnel onboard the Frigates. MCV (Motorised Control Valves) and Actuators; Accurate Process Control: Flow Control Valve; Tank Valves.

• Executed a successful refit project for SAS AMATOLA on DGs (Diesel Generators) and PDs (Propulsion Diesel Engines) integration with IPMS and other mechanical systems including sensors.
• Successfully got the OBTS (On Board Training System) to work on the Frigates. The system has never worked since the vessels came back to SA.
• Successfully fixed the LBTS (Land Based Training System) after the system stopped working due to electronic and hardware failure.
• Streamlined the maintenance processes for personnel onboard the vessels which helped with the effectiveness and efficiency and reduce time it took to do the maintenance.
• Ran a successful training of PLCs and sensors fault-finding and troubleshooting.
• Supervised and ran a successful in-service training program for the SA Navy Officers who are studying National Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Training still continues.

Systems Technician - SANA - Naval Base, Simons Town

Mainly responsible for the Degaussing and ICCP (Impressed Current Cathodic Protection) systems and magnetic signature and electrical signature onboard the Frigates. Preventative maintenance and system training for personnel onboard the Frigates. Investigate the cause of corrosion within the Naval Base. Researching on new ways of solving the corrosion problem. Offer training to personnel.

• Conducted an imported investigation on the cause of corrosion on the propulsion shaft and the combined exhaust system based on the degaussing system onboard the SAS ISANDLWANA.

Supervisor/Project Research - Sonpower Solar Technology

Mainly responsible for research on new ways of using solar energy, improving solar geyser design and new product. Client consultation for solar system requirements. Supervising plumbing team.
