Adam Curry

I am Adam Curry, I am currently a wildlife biologist, rope access technician and Joe Brown's sales assistant.

I studied Zoology for my bachelors degree and also have an MSc in Conservation and Land Management. I have worked on a few conservation projects in Canada, Costa Rica, Bonaire and the UK. Studying Wolverines, Parrots and forestry. I have enjoyed my time working away but now want to focus more on the UK environment and my community.

I have worked as an outdoor pursuits instructor and I am currently a rock climber who enjoys sport climbing, trad climbing and bouldering. I have a small amount of winter climbing experience and I have many days ski touring experience.

IRATA Rope Access Technician (November 2019 – Present) 

Self Employed Individual.

Carrying out a variety of jobs using rope access.

Responsibilities and Experience

• Safely rigging and operating rope access systems in various urban and industrial settings
• Building maintenance, confined spaces (medium risk), cleaning, installations, building inspections, vegetation removal.
• Adhering to risk assessments and conducting dynamic risk assessments for myself and my colleagues. 

Field Biologist (December 2022 – May 2023)

Macaw Recovery Network, Sarapiqui, Costa Rica. 

Monitoring and managing the wild population of great green macaws (Ara Ambiguus) in northern Costa Rica.

Responsibilities and Experience

• Assessing and managing risks to myself and my team members in a remote tropical environment. (High temperatures, dangerous animals, and remoteness) 
• Rigging and operating rope systems for accessing parrot nests in tree canopies.
• Visually inspecting great green macaw nests and chicks
• Installing camera traps and passive acoustic monitoring devices in trees across hundreds of miles of rainforest, farms, and national parks.
• Collecting DNA samples from, and Fitting telemetry devices to, upwards of twenty parrot chicks

Snow Remover (December 2020 – March 2021) 

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Golden, BC. 

Maintaining a safe outdoor environment for staff and guests.

Responsibilities and Experience

• Removing of snow from fire exits, walkways, and roofs
• Operating and maintaining heavy machinery
• Safely building anchors and operating rope access systems in severe winter conditions

Field Technician (January – April 2020) 

Adamantium Consulting, Golden, BC.

Assisting a PhD research project at Calgary University – Effects Of Human Activities And Natural Processes On Wolverine Reproduction And Connectivity.

Roles and Experience

• Risk assessment and management at many high consequence sample sites (extreme temperatures and remoteness)
• Accurately and efficiently collecting data
• Constructing and maintaining baited camera trap sampling stations
• Organizing and maintaining field equipment
• Safely travelling to and from sample sites (ski touring, driving in winter conditions and by helicopter)

Parrot Conservation Volunteer (June – December 2017) 

Echo Foundation, Rincon, Bonaire.

Carrying out an island wide nest monitoring program of the yellow shouldered amazon parrot (Amazonas barbadensis), on the island of Bonaire.

Roles and Experience

• Using natural anchors such as trees and rocks to create safe rope access systems for reaching parrot nest cavities in cliff faces
• Assessing and managing risks in a hazardous environment (extreme temperatures, uneven and steep approaches to cliffs and rigging sites, and bees)
• Organizing and maintaining field equipment
• Adhering to preplanned schedules/working locations, risk assessments and procedures. 

Outdoor Education Instructor (2014 – 2019)

Leading young people and adults in a range of outdoor activites, predominantly hiking, caving and climbing.
