In my current position, I am the primary developer of the PCOS Buddy mobile app which will allow women and gender-diverse people who live with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome to track symptoms as well as various health-related data such as exercise, hydration and period cycle. Developing functionality for this app has allowed me to enhance my JavaScript and React Native skills while applying high standards of code maintenance and handling version control. Other responsibilities include front-end design and development of upcoming PCOS Buddy websites, involving the integration of GraphQL with React and Gatsby.js.
This role has been a greatly rewarding opportunity for me to apply my skills to a practical purpose and I am now prepared to bring the same passion to a new, full-time role.
My dissertation project, ‘Anamnesis: Carer’s Notebook and Support App’, involved the development of a mobile application in React Native & Javascript aimed at caregivers of people who live with dementia. The app allows users to journal and monitor the person’s condition and symptoms, receiving relevant caregiving advice based on peer-reviewed and well-researched methods of symptom categorisation. One primary focus of the app was efficient visualisation of patient data and navigation between screens due to the time-sensitive schedules of caregivers who often fit their duties in between working or studying.
The project ultimately excelled in achieving its goals of creating an efficient and stress-relieving symptom-tracking environment, as tested by a large and varied group of experienced carers.
