Since graduating in 2004, I have worked as Band 6 staff nurse at reputed NHS hospital. I currently work at Manchester University Foundation Trust. And I have worked at Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital Eye theatre and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital for nearly nine years and I have established myself as a dedicated, reliable and professional member of staff. I am committed to providing the highest standard of patient care and endeavour to provide my patients with a positive experience along their care pathway.@As a theatre practitioner at Wythenshawe Hospital, I rotate through Day Case surgery, Treatment and diagnostic centre and procedure room. I also perform admission of patient who come in for , knee injection, drug infusion and my main responsibility is to act as a scrub practitioner during surgical procedure. Within the Day case department, though I am trained to cannulate, I get involved with every other aspect of the procedure performed. When rota’d to the department, I endeavour to gain as much experience as possible, whether by setting up the theatre room according to the department requirement, assisting in ultrasound scans with vascular procedure. I enjoy the pace and pressure of the department, and working with a patient group which is often diagnosed with melanoma, or during diagnostic cystoscopy to rule out cancer, these patient often are in need of empathy and reassurance, for example post procedure ( recovery stage). I am able to put patient at ease, by being calm and considerate, and consider patient care as a priority. The ability to provide high standards of care requires effective communication and this is something on which I thrive.@@As a band 6, I have developed my personal clinical knowledge and skills to lead and to promote excellence in clinical area. To achieve excellence I maintain to organise, create, maintain good working relationships with my colleague. I have contributed to the development of all learning needs by proactively promoting a learning culture and leading by example, thus contributing a safe and high quality of care standards from future health professionals. My interest to update my knowledge with recent NHS policy and understanding the importance of different methods of teaching style and methods is my strength. I am confident and capable of communicating with colleagues from all grades as well as patients with their range of requirements – physical and emotional.The extended time spent with patients has added another dimension to my communication skills and also allowed me to further my list-management skills.@I was nominated to be the employee of the month in which was highlighted as, acting as a representative and regularly provided feedback on issues concerning my peers, suggesting improvements to the service, as well as listening to my colleagues concerns. As a more experienced member of staff, I am able to show leadership and direction to those newer to the department or more recently qualified. I am also trained as a student assessor ( mentor) and enjoy this aspect of extensive experience of supporting and teaching future health professional. The role of implementing new systems and procedures will not only aide to pass on the knowledge but also will facilitating learning environment.@@My experience has given me an appreciation of the power of clear communication to disseminate information effectively and therefore increase efficiency and productivity. If information can be delivered quickly and logically in a busy working environment, staff can concentrate on the patient without diversion. To this end, I have produced or assisted in the creative of posters with content designed for instance Quality improvement board and Brilliant Bee board. The ease of use should reduce the time spend looking for information and also reduce the time more senior staff spend dealing with questions that can be answered within this document, I have prioritised quality improvement and created surgeon preference folder. Furthermore, I am currently involved in the design allocation sheets for daily rota and I show interest in extra departmental commitments. My job role not only involves Treating the patient with intravitreal injection but also I take responsibility for infection control link, resuscitation link, conduct and attend ward meeting in focus to bring changes with the department as a improvement programme. I also take responsibility to train new trainee clinical specialist nurse and make them competent not only practically but also theoretically. I organise to reallocate staff according to the skill mix required within our and peripheral sites mainly focused on patient safety at all times. At present I act as a super user for mew software that is introduced within our trust and I have shown my dedication to train all the end user effectively, mainly focusing on their emotional support to help deal with their stress.@@@My current role, coupled with my study modules and work in the clinical environment have enhanced my ability and skills to both manage and complete any given task in a timely and thorough fashion with relative efficiency. Furthermore, as an independent learner, and having to combine family life, work and academic achievement, I have developed good organizational skills avoiding any conflicts in this multitasking situation. I am self-motivated and have developed skills to work under demanding environment, time management and organizing workload both for myself and others. @I always kept my mentoring and teaching skills by working with student nurses and junior staff and also keen on regularly updating my knowledge by attending relevant study days. I have acquired a qualification in mentorship (2015) and have served as a mentor to a number of pre-registration nursing students, health care assistants as well as newly qualified staff.@@ My IT skills allow me to use programs such as MS Word and MS PowerPoint on Windows. I regularly use PowerPoint slides during my student presentations at my university and for my link nurse role where I have to do regular the powerpoint presentation to discuss our departmental needs. I have also done further courses which I have captured in the application. I engage in continuous professional development in line with the NMC code of conduct (2014) to enhance my skills and efficacy on the day case unit and in my relationship with both staff and patient alike.@@ My experience in my varied roles at the Manchester Eye hospital and Wythenshaw hospital has been across eye theatre, ward and plastic surgery which are fast-paced and the environment required multitasking skills to be used to the maximum. I gained valuable experience of pre, per and post-operative surgical patients. As a theatre nurse I gained extensive clinical knowledge about basic life support and also have developed sound understanding of the issues related to identification, assessment, diagnosis, surgical treatment and management of oncology patients. I carry out a regular risk assessment, completing and reporting incidents, dealing with infection prevention and control, incidents and dealing with complaints. On the whole work at the MFT equipped me to evolve into a thorough professional with organisational and managerial skills suited for extremely busy and competitive clinical environment, working closely with an excellent multidisciplinary team of nurses, doctors, consultants, vascular and ophthalmic specialist nurses, research team, theatre and recovery teams and health care support workers.@@Along the way, I have acquired experience and understanding to communicate with patients and families from different cultures and communities demonstrating my ability to meet the trust world-class values.@ I have also played an active role in clinical governance activities. I understand the need for these practices for maintaining and developing high standards of care and for the safety of practice. I am aware of Clinical Governance agenda and also aware of, and comply with equal opportunity issues. @@@I am forward-thinking and technically minded,I have good knowledge of powerpoint, Word, Excel. I am quick to learn and, with an excellent attention to detail and a calm head under pressure, being a super user for EPIC - HIVE I am able to methodically managed a workload and ensure patients receive their examinations in a safe and timely manner. I have proved and proud of myself for not only being very efficient but also improved on my teaching skills to my colleagues. I am physically fit, I am willing and able to work at different sites and have a full, clean driving .I have witnessed the first-hand commitment to its patients and the quality of the service it provides them while working for MFT. I have undertaken Team and Leadership, Research module, Management of change and Ophthalmic Care module as a part of my BSc Contemporary Health Practice at Manchester Metropolitan University with the interest in new developments and ongoing research into treatment and prevention, and the expansion of services, I am keen to apply my skills and develop clinically and professionally. I will continue to uphold the highest standards of patient care with an environment centred upon professional excellence and care.
