I'm an IT systems administrator and I've been in the NHS since 2008. It's been a big perspective changer for me - just the sheer scale of systems, infrastructure and people I've provided IT support for. What a fun ride it is, the ever changing demands, job evolution and user needs has kept me alert and agile to an ever fluid IT industry.
What I love about the NHS is how there is no one way to do things – in fact like the IT industry, the NHS is a fairly young industry with a massive demand and rapidly changing horizons. Both industries are trying to perfect the art of their respective areas. Importantly for me is that, never ending pursuit to deliver the best products / services.
So, yeah I work in IT, but really, what is IT? Well, in my mind, IT is simply the use of technology in pursuit of our well-being, mental evolution, exploration of our universe and advancements in connectivity. How we choose to achieve these goals is limited only by our drive and imagination.
And that's why I'm in IT - to learn from others and do as much as I can to make a difference.
Analysis & problem solving are a strong skill I have. I've used these skills to help colleagues with group policy, exchange management, some networking & desktop based problems. I'm currently the key SCCM admin at ELHT.
So as you can see, I thrive in a large enterprise environment, provisioning IT services. The more cutting edge the technology is, the more it intrigues me and drives me to learn and do.
IT's been in my blood, ever since my dad bought me a 'state-of-the-art' Packard Bell multimedia PC. Many years later I still can't get enough of 'opening' technology up to see just how it works. Although I have studied IT, academically... I'm still studying and learning, hopefully for a long time yet.
Where technological & scientific advancements take place - is a place that will draw me to it!
16 years supporting IT provisioning services in the NHS.
