I have extensive experience spanning the best part of two decades. I've supported children and adults with learning/physical disabilities an people with a history of homelessness, addictions and mental health. I have been trained consistently throughout and also have an SVQ2 in Health and Social care.
My personal interests are playing the guitar, live music, cinema/classic film, painting,sculpting, hiking and wild swimming.
I started out at 17 in 2002. Working for a special needs school (Glebe School) in Perth, supporting the pupils during the summer break. My duties consisted of ensuring the service user was safe and accounted for whilst on day outings.
I then started working for the charity that ran the summer play scheme, (Open Minds) working in and outwith the centre supporting in activities. Personal care, meal prep and medication administration.
I then moved to Edinburgh due to family member being ill so I could be closer to them and began working for Enable Scotland in the visiting support team where I would support adults with learning disabilities to maintain their tenancies. My duties were to support to pay bills, meal prep, housework, attend appointments, companionship.
My career took a bit of a turn when I then went on to work with people who had a history of homelessness, addictions and mental health tomaimtaim their tenancies.
I returned to work in learning disabilities and challenging behaviour in my most recent post were I supported young adults from school into adult services, ensuring as comfortable a transition as possible. I also worked in the respite department, making sure the service users were as relaxed and had some home comforts, a TV and dvd player in their room, Internet access, choice of meals and clean linens and clothes.
I've been on a vast array of training courses in the 18 years I worked in the sector. Almost everything imaginable.
Think the most significant and relevant qualification is my SVQ2 in Health and Social Care.
