After working between international construction and international liability for close to 3 years within the insurance market, I have found a desire and understanding for Underwriting. I also have developed a strong base point for my development towards underwriting, which is where I aim to progress towards. I have been able to make the majority of this progress whilst at Tokio Marine Kiln, where I have been fortunate enough to receive extra responsibilities to help aid my learning.
Such as shadowing Underwriters in broker appointments, allowing me to understand the evaluation of risks in more detail.
● Communicating with internal underwriters
● Collect and analyze insurance information that facilitates the risk assessment process and provides underwriting support
● Document and communicate policy approvals or rejections to the underwriting team, insurance agents, supervisors, and clients in a timely manner
● Compile data and analytics for reports that can advise insurance policy guidelines and whether coverage should be provided
● Serve as the liaison for underwriters and customers in order to track, manage, and prioritize insurance applications and other services
● Maintain accurate, up-to-date records within underwriting software programs by verifying all documents for accuracy and completion in order to provide sound policy recommendations to prospective and existing customers Taking the lead in the training of 2 new beginners within the team
● Mentoring more Junior Underwriting Assistant, ensuring the correct guidance and learning is provided
● Maintaining and monitoring the budget/premium for multiple line slips
