I help museums, science centres and heritage attractions develop audience-focussed, compelling visitor experiences. I can draw on several decades working for national, local authority and independent museums in the UK, and on major projects worldwide.

My work includes audience analysis and development, project visioning and concept development, interpretation and narrative planning, design and digital brief development, text writing and editing. In discussion with clients, I deploy a number of specific tools to structure and inform projects, depending on client needs. These tools may include:

• Visions statements, visitor propositions, aims and objectives to help clarify strategic intent
• Audience segmentation and motivations/needs/barriers analysis to understand potential audiences
• Audience outcomes to define wide ranging benefits for visitors in a rounded experience
• Message hierarchies to structure large quantities of complex content
• Learning styles and multiple Intelligences to broaden mechanisms and forms of engagement 
• Psychological rewards for engagement to help build an engaging and satisfying experience

Over the years, I have enjoyed working with diverse and multidisciplinary content in a wide range of subject areas, including science, industry, social history, archaeology, culture and art across artefact-based and interactive exhibitions, immersive experiences and digital media.

I am on the National Lottery Heritage Fund roster for Public Engagement with Heritage and also an honorary lecturer at the UCL Institute of Archaeology. Each year I lead one or two seminars for the UCL Museum Studies MA, covering areas including museum communications, text and writing for exhibitions, project management and digital learning.

Following extensive experience at the Science Museum, London as well as digital agency, Razorfish, Culture Online and international exhibition and IPR agency, The Science of…, I set up Foulger & Foulger Limited in 2010 to provide consultancy to cultural institutions and visitor attractions.
