Thomas Herbert

My name is Thomas Herbert and I am a twenty-one year-old student studying Politics at Queen Mary, University of London. I have a particular interest in local government, housing policy, and political writing. I have plenty of work experience in the hospitality sector, ranging from server to bartender to barista, and these jobs have impressed upon me a wide range of skills. I gained great experience with interpersonal communications, including how to communicate clearly and effectively, but I also learned time management, the importance of punctuality, and developed an incredible work ethic - one which comes naturally from working in a fast-paced restaurant or bar. I believe these skills will translate well to any organisation interested in me. Additionally, I served as the chief Copy Editor of my high school's yearbook for two and a half years, which gave me skills and experience in copywriting and editing for a professional publication. During my foundation year, I received a distinction with Honours, and only received firsts (top marks) the entire year. Furthermore, many tutors commented positively on my writing ability. So far in my Bachelor's, I have only received firsts. Additionally, my perspective as a British-American dual citizen is unique, and having lived in both countries for significant periods of time, I have a great understanding of both of their political systems, how they intertwine with each other, and how they affect the rest of the world. I believe all of these skills and experiences make me an ideal candidate for any organisation looking to hire an intern, temp, or grant me any other experience within the political/communications world. Furthermore, my writing ability will translate well to any person, business, or firm looking for promotional, journalistic, or editorial copy.

I have worked across the hospitality sector, doing everything from serving to bartending. I am currently serving as the Social Media Manager for Healthwatch Hillingdon, a healthcare charity located in West London. I served as the chief Copy Editor of my high school's yearbook for two and a half years.

I am in the top 10%, marks-wise, of those in my year (Year 2) for BA Politics at Queen Mary, University of London, a Russell Group University. I have also completed a Foundation Year in Politics and International Relations, also at Queen Mary, in which I received a distinction.
