Dr. Jimmy is from Singapore. He enjoys playing chess and reading about history, and because of that, he researches games theory and political economy. He is especially interested in using economic theories to explain broad sweeps of history. His book “Musket, Map and Money: How Military Technology Shaped Geopolitics and Economics” was published in 2014 by De Gruyter and is on the best-seller list of Amazon.
Dr. Jimmy enjoys studying. He has been a student for over four decades. Currently, he is taking data science, economics, and history courses online. He believes that being a student himself connects him with his students better and makes him a better teacher. “To learn, to teach, to write, and to delight” is his motto.
I am a good narrator. I can explain abstract theories in layman’s language vividly. My book “Musket, Map and Money: How Military Technology Shaped Geopolitics and Economics” was published by De Gruyter in 2014 and is on the best-seller list of the Amazon Kindle Store. The popularity of the book testifies to my knowledge and expository skills.
I am an experienced teaching scholar. I have teaching qualifications (Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, Nottingham; Fellow, Higher Education Academy, UK) and have published a book on the pedagogy of Economics. I have extensive experience teaching many students from diverse backgrounds. I could teach many courses in mathematics, history of Chinese and Western culture, general education, and other relevant areas.
I am multidisciplinary. I have postgraduate training in economics (PhD, Toronto), statistics (MS, Duke), political science (PhD, Duke), international business laws (LLM, London), and finance (CFA program completed in 2021, FRM program completed in 2021, and FRM status certified in 2022). I combined a good command of mathematical and statistical techniques with knowledge across several fields of the social sciences.
I research political economy and do game theoretic modelling with applications in economics, history, international relations, law, and politics.
