Cierra James

Hi, I’m Cierra James from Tampa, FL! I’m currently pursuing my master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning while working as a Planning and Zoning Technician for Hillsborough County. I have a strong passion for sustainable development, zoning policy, and community development. My goal is to help shape vibrant, inclusive, and well-planned communities through thoughtful policies and innovative planning strategies.

I have experience in planning, advocacy, education, and customer service. As a Planning & Zoning Technician for Hillsborough County, I review zoning applications, manage intake processes, and ensure compliance with regulations. Previously, I worked as a Consultant & Senior Living Advocate Assistant at Saving Grace Senior Advocates, helping seniors find housing and navigate Medicaid applications.

As a Teaching Assistant at Livingstone Academy, I supported students with learning disabilities and maintained classroom organization. I also worked as a Beauty Advisor & Key Holder at Sally Beauty Supply, providing customer service, managing inventory, and tracking sales.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of South Florida, with an expected graduation in May 2026. My relevant coursework includes Planning History & Theory, Land Use Planning, GIS for Urban Planners, Transportation and Land Use, and Urban Spatial Analysis.
