Colin Dottor

Hi my Name is Colin Dottor and am currently a second-semester junior attending Merrimack College while majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I am intrigued to potentially work for a future company, as I am striving to find a full-fledged opportunity for career growth. My ability to grasp new concepts quickly and drive for modernization will be assets that complement the company’s goal in finding technology-enabled solutions.

I believe I am starting to gain traction in my knowledge of engineering principles in my time at Merrimack. I am searching to be a contributing member in brainstorming and problem-solving at a given workplace. This last summer I interned for Contech Medical, a company now under UFP Technologies.

In this environment, I worked with a team which was composed of many different disciplines. This position allowed me to work on CAD-based projects for the company with programs including Solidworks, Autodesk Fusion 360, and Python. In addition, I got to construct electronic drawings for various manufacturing machines, work on time studies, and got hands-on experience with different machines.

I feel these experiences can be practical in contributing to projects and troubleshooting problems. I believe I have a strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and can multitask effectively. Asking the right questions for the incentive in putting my best effort in is what I strive to do.

As a strong candidate eager for experience and to deepen my understanding of mechanical design, I am interested in finding landing spot in a future career in engineering.

Engineering Department Intern May 2022 - August 2022

• Worked on CAD-based projects for the company while developing skills in programs including Solidworks and Autodesk Fusion 360.

• Group project to build a spring based catapult that could launch a projectile with specific constraints chosen by the group.
• Constructed a tennis ball launcher for a dog in a household environment.
• The design included consideration in critical selection and application of engineering principles

Fluid Mechanics, Waterslide Project Spring 2022

• Group project to create a theoretical water slide provided with fluid calculations to fulfill specific requirements.
• Constructed a dual slide variant with the idea of letting consumers race each other.
• The design had heavy consideration in ethical, economical, and environmental factors.

Park Ranger 1-2 May 2020 – August 2021

• Promoted the safe and orderly enjoyment of the parks, campgrounds, beaches, and Management Areas administered by the Division of Forest Environment while assisting patrons of the facility.
• Inspected facilities for maintenance problems and equipment failures, and performed various light maintenance tasks.
