Growing up, athletics gave me an early start on understanding what it meant to be a part of a team. How to take responsibility for mistakes and being accountable, being a leader not by being the biggest voice but the hardest worker, and how to communicate effectively with an entire team. These ethics are things I brought with me as I finished my education and joined the workforce.
Injuries are a part of sports and I found myself sitting out due to a knee surgery, wanting nothing more to get back to doing what I loved most. After I performed physical therapy I returned to playing better than I had previously and this sparked my interest in this career path. I developed a passion to get people get back to doing what they love to do most. The best part is the different reasons patients come to therapy. Whether it be to return to sports, being able to play with their grandkids, or getting back to work so they can provide for their family. I have a moto I use as a therapist, “Hard work pays off”. I love when a patient takes this in full stride and works hard to return to what they love. The passion to aid others in returning to their most functional self is what lead me to be a part of so many student lead groups and volunteer programs as a DPT student. Such as being on the Board of Directors for the UAMS North Street Clinic, being a group lead GO Baby Go event, and volunteering with Achilles Athletes. It is a powerful feeling getting an opportunity to aid people through injuries or disabilities to return to the aspects of their life that mean the most to them.
