My name is David and I am looking for work in the veterinary field as a veterinary assistant. I graduated the veterinary assistant program at Grossmont Health Occupations Center. Currently I volunteer at the San Diego Humane Society. I am looking for a full-time position and very eager to start my new career working with animals.
Internship / Torrey Pines Animal Hospital May 2023 – June 2023
Performed basic animal care including walking dogs, cleaning Kennels & Cages, administering medications. Assisted RVT’s
With Restraint holds while animals were given vaccines, Drew up vaccines & gave vaccines while supervised by a RVT.
Assisted with ear cleaning, expressing anal glands, nail trims, Prepped animals for surgery & dental procedures, surgical laundry & reg laundry towels and blankets. Assisted RVT’s in exam room with taking the history of the patient & the reason for their visit.
Veterinarians & RVT’s during surgeries with monitoring anesthesia & Chest tap. Giving SQ fluids & demonstrating clients how to give SQ fluids. Prepare lab samples for Idexx / Antech, collect voided sample of urine, cleaning surgical instruments.
Giving oral medications, monitoring/administer sq fluids, set up IV fluids, Rx labeling & filling, setting up anesthesia machine, suture removal, ear cytology & preparing ear cytology & stain. Taking temperature, pulse, respiration rate & checking mucous membrane color & capillary refill time. Administering eye drops for anesthetic patients. Assisted with bandaging animals, removing bandages & removing catheters.

• Safety within veterinary laws & ethics. Learned breed identification, anatomy & physiology, Medical terminology & translation for client to understand, Animal handling & restraints. Learned how to conduct a brief & full physical exam on various species. Applied proper medication techniques, first aid & vaccine injections.
Medical math & pharmacology in order to make sure the right dose is given to the patient based on their physiology.
