I am excited to take my transferable experience around student selection, training, and evaluation, crises management, orientation, student behavior and conduct, facilities and operational experience, large scale programming and event planning, student leadership development and training, and inter-campus partnerships to the field.
As my resume outlines, in my current graduate assistant at Syracuse University at Student Engagement, I hire, supervise, schedule, and train a team of approximately 150 students, most of whom are work-study students and often from minoritized backgrounds. I have been required to exercise strong administrative and organizational skills, and system-thinking lens during a tumultuous time when the Student Engagement staff were dramatically under-staffed due to several unexpected departures. I have experience working in fast-paced, dynamic, stressful work environments that require me to be flexible, adaptable, and available (at times 24/7).
I also excelled in adapting quickly to a new institutional/departmental culture and experiencing demanding and intense work conditions, including on-call responsibilities, when I served as a summer orientation intern at UMASS Amherst. As a team, we were “all hands-on deck,” executing three to four orientation sessions over a eleven week period for over 400 new students (and families). I was valued for my upbeat, positive attitude, high motivational level, and initiative.
I regularly illustrated strong supervisory skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal acumen with my new colleagues, anxious families, and students. In past performance appraisals at these institutions and past internships, I have received consistent feedback about my exemplary active listening skills, emotional intelligence, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Florida. Most recently I obtained a Master of Science in Postsecondary Higher Education from Syracuse University.
