Security, transportation, homelessness, crime, loss of business/tourism, growth, agriculture, morality, and any other challenges your city faces. Complex problems take complex solutions, so most solutions are team efforts with a shared vision. My job is to help you identify the vision and craft it so that it is something you can build on.
Background - licensed architect, project management professional, masters in urban planning, twenty six year Navy Civil Engineer Corps veteran, design manager, construction manager, public works officer, and deployments with Seabees. Served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Djibouti.
Twenty six years of managing Navy bases - very similar to cities - population, streets, businesses, chapel, numerous buildings, security, transportation, utilities, repairs, communication, and other similarities. These same concepts suitable for cities around the world. I've had the opportunity to visit over 50 countries and am constantly impressed with the similarities and differences.
Cities are unique and provide geographic, regional, cultural, and many other unique qualities to light. Cities also cause a spiritual, emotional, and physical force - sometimes they cause fear and sometimes they cause joy, sometimes entrapment, other times freedom. The beauty is that your city can change and will change, but without positive, intentional leadership it will change for the worse, not better.
Author of City Devotional - pulling God's design for cities into daily lives for city managers and leaders. Just like God's designs for our lives that are spelled out in the Bible are perfectly suited for godly living, so too are principles for cities that are wise that, if implemented, will make your city much wiser. This applies morally and physically.
For example, using the analogy of your human body taking in a bacterium or virus. Think of how your city took in a criminal element - it is against the design of your city and causing damage that needs to be dealt with. Just as a criminal is arrested and taken out of your city, so too your body fights off a bacterium and virus to make it leave the body.
Using clear analogies for concepts, I will tailor solutions for your city that will allow you to take a leadership role and lead your city in positive change toward healing and strength for years to come.
As a people person, I've been drawn toward education that will help me increase my skills and abilities to help humans. Architecture was a fantastic foundation - allowing me the principles to protect occupants in buildings while creating beautiful places to live and work. I studied architecture and earned a Bachelors in Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
After architecture, as a big picture thinker, I decided to study urban planning which the Navy also thought was important enough to send me on a fully funded masters program at the University of Washington in Seattle. After serving in Afghanistan, the Navy asked where I wanted to go next and so I asked to study war at a war college and I was selected to attend the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania where I earned a Masters in Strategic Studies. All of these educational opportunities have increased my knowledge of people, human behavior, and how to influence humans to make wiser choices.
