About

Senior Network Engineer with 25+ years in enterprise IT infrastructure, including a decade owning datacenter, campus, and broadcast networking for a global professional sports league. Design, deploy, and operate multi-site redundant networks spanning 32 arenas, three corporate offices, and live events worldwide. Deep hands-on depth across Arista, Palo Alto, and Cisco platforms, with current focus on cloud networking and cloud-delivered security.

Own projects end to end — design through documentation — and make sound decisions under live-event pressure.

Experience

Senior Network Engineer at National Hockey League (2016-05 – Present)

Own network connectivity and security for NHL offices in New York, Montreal, and Toronto, all 32 team arenas, and international events.

  • Migrated all 32 arenas from Cisco FTD to Palo Alto PA-3260 firewalls — designed eBGP/iBGP peering, NAT, security policy, and VPN; handled registration and licensing, firmware and dynamic content updates, and centralized policy management through Panorama.
  • Overhauled the arena WAN: replaced the Cisco WAN platform with Arista and added dedicated edge routers for DIA and MPLS handoff into core, plus secondary ISP circuits at every site for backup connectivity.
  • Extended enterprise security controls to remote users and cloud-hosted workloads using Palo Alto Prisma Browser and cloud-delivered firewall; support AWS networking for cloud workloads.
  • Keep national broadcast feeds pristine — monitor MPLS, BGP, and multicast paths end to end alongside Disney BAM and streaming engineers and carriers Lumen and Zayo.
  • Built and support the NYC Studio for SMPTE 2110, plus NSX and VXLAN across the NYC and PAC datacenters and campus network.
  • Designed and deployed an Arista spine/leaf proof-of-concept for office migration — BGP and VXLAN with 100/40/10GbE connectivity.
  • Design and deploy flypack network kits for Drafts and special events, and travel on-site to validate LAN/WAN/VPN and endpoint connectivity for live video streaming.
  • Secure network access with Aruba ClearPass, validating user and device privilege through RADIUS and 802.1X authentication.
  • Monitor all systems and network infrastructure via SolarWinds NPM/NCM/SAM (configured NPM for high availability), Arista CloudVision, Plixer Scrutinizer, and vRNI; administer internal and external DNS and DHCP in Infoblox.
  • Plan and execute the annual refresh of 400+ network devices.
  • Support arena game nights daily and event broadcasts worldwide, partnering with arena managers on production and broadcast equipment — encoders, decoders, cameras, Wi-Fi, LAN/WAN — and with vendors including HawkEye, Jogmo, and XOS to resolve complex issues.
  • Deployed and supported the Toronto network for Return to Play (2020), the league's isolated postseason environment.
  • Supported the migration of 1,000 mailboxes from Lotus Notes to Microsoft 365.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams and procedural documentation in Visio and Wiki.

Senior Systems Engineer at IBM — Global Technology Services (2015-04 – 2016-05)

Continued as embedded senior engineer on the J. Walter Thompson account following IBM's transition of the engagement; maintained the global VMware, Citrix, and Windows infrastructure described below.

Senior Systems Engineer at J. Walter Thompson (2006-10 – 2015-04)

  • Managed global VMware infrastructure with HA and DRS across multiple sites — 80+ ESX hosts and 620+ virtual servers; virtualized 100+ physical servers using PlateSpin and VMware Converter and upgraded ESX 3/4 to vSphere 5.
  • Designed and operated the Citrix VDI estate — XenServer, XenDesktop, XenApp, and Provisioning Services for 200 users — including Windows 7 golden image lifecycle and AppSense EM profile management.
  • Administered a global Active Directory environment of multiple forests, sites, and domains serving 6,000+ users, with Group Policy standardization across server, desktop, and Citrix estates.
  • Owned backup and disaster recovery: 30+ TB backed up weekly in CommVault with retention to seven years, DataDomain replication, and annual SOX recovery testing at a SunGard colocation facility.
  • Supported 1,000+ HP and Dell servers across globally distributed datacenters; deployed SQL Server clusters, Red Hat Enterprise Linux for PeopleSoft, clustered DFS, and Exchange 2007.

Senior Network / Systems Engineer at Mendes & Mount, LLP (2000-03 – 2006-10)

  • Maintained network connectivity and server infrastructure across the New York, New Jersey, and Los Angeles offices.
  • Migrated Windows NT to Windows 2000/2003 with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and RIS; deployed 400+ desktops; built and clustered SQL Server and Exchange environments.
  • Owned the Elite Enterprise accounting platform end to end — clustered SQL back end, application and front-end servers, database migration, user administration, and a training environment.
  • Ran backup, SAN and tape infrastructure, patch management, antivirus, and network monitoring; documented network devices and topology in Visio.

PC Technician at O'Melveny & Myers (1997-10 – 2000-03)

  • Provided desktop support and maintenance for 350 employees across offices and conference rooms, including OS upgrades and hardware deployment.
