Kate Timbes is a South Carolina based interdisciplinary artist whose work investigates the narrative and functions of materiality. Working primarily in sculpture, painting, and video, she weaves mediums together, carrying objects, paint, seeds, weavings and sculptural handmade paper through physical, emotional, and digital landscapes. Timbes contemplates sourcing of resources, rethinking use as an individual effort to engage in a curious ecological practice.
Timbes has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, with recent exhibitions at Visalia Arts Center, the Richardson Family Art Gallery, the Spartanburg Public Library, and the DIS Student Hub in Copenhagen, Denmark. In addition to her studio practice, Timbes creates public artworks to engage with local communities, social histories, and urban spaces. Timbes received her BA in Studio Art from Wofford College in 2023, completed a Work-Study Fellowship at Arrowmont School of Craft in 2025, and is a current member of Zero Space Collective.
Two weeks after graduating I moved to Germany to work for the Department of Defense at Edelweiss Lodge and Resort. In February 2025, I moved home to South Carolina to pursue my career as an artist. I work Part-Time at a coffee and lunch restaurant, SmallSUGAR and at the Mad Platter in Columbia, SC while building my creative network.
February I installed my first solo exhibition in California, painted a mural in Greenville, SC, completed a six-week Work-Study at Arrowmont School, won first in the Koger Center's “The Project” competition, and became a new member in Zero Space Collective.
I graduated Wofford College in 2023 with a BA in Studio Art and a minor in Business and Film and Digital Media.
