My introduction to chess was playing with my dad and his brothers, reading chess books provided by my father and waiting and hoping for the day I would finally win. Growing up in Austin Texas, I was a member of my school chess club and participated in many great summer programs along with other sports and activities. I have experience supporting and tutoring friends/peers in chess, academics, and through ups and downs.
Moving to Santa Barbara in Fall 21 to begin my undergraduate, I found myself reconnecting with the game, understanding the way we move on the board is not so different from a representation of life. I have strong interpersonal skills and patience as a teacher, having a younger sister and many cousins has given me many great experiences with children. Working the 23/24 school year as a chess instructor with Academic Chess in the Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Carpinteria areas of California gave me the experience and opportunity to learn how to keep students excited and engaged during lessons.
I always like to come with a lesson plan to give students an opportunity to learn something new each class.
