I am a second-year Physician Assistant/Associate (PA) student looking for a job in a research setting with patient care. I am currently taking a break from the PA program in order to explore alternative careers.

Medical assistant, urology/neuro-urology • prime healthcare and mount sinai rehabilitation hospital, Enfield, Connecticut • August 2020 – January 2021

• To carry out general office duties as needed, get vitals and interview patients, and update medical information in order to reduce patients’ wait time significantly.
• To collect urine samples/cultures, kidney stones, and other necessary tests for analysis.
• To assess and analyze pre-examination questionnaires filled out by patients, utilize the bladder scan, set up equipment for procedures, and autoclave used instruments.
• To assist in-office procedures such as cystoscopy, transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) biopsy, vasectomy, urodynamic test, bladder Botox injection, UroLift, and Spanner placement/replacement.

Lab assistant/technician • Holyoke Medical Center, Holyoke, Massachusetts • January 2020 – July 2020

• To collect, receive, sort specimens, and verify both inpatient and outpatient information. To centrifuge, gram-stain, and mount tissue specimens via ThinPrep processor, coverslip the slides for analysis.
• To set up Fine Needle Aspiration procedure and pleural fluid analysis. 
• To plant culture samples on appropriate agar plates and media, store blood cultures, prepare send-out specimens, maintain inventory of all media, reagents, and supplies, and restock supplies.
• To review and forward the lab results to providers for decisive action via phone or fax, assist phlebotomists, and process the add-on.
