I am a Biology Student at Olympic College. I have been in healthcare caring for older adults for about four years now. I am passionate about helping people through their illnesses, this has translated into my Biology degree as I hope to use my degree to work in a laboratory setting doing research for treatment and cures.
I have an interest in pathology, immunology, microbiology, and neurological research. I am confident in receiving and communicating information, including medical terminology, and I also have laboratory skills accrued through coursework such as anatomy, chemistry, and microbiology.
My experience is most concentrated in caring for older adults in their daily tasks at long-term care facilities and assisted living facilities. My current position is at The Ridge of Encore Communities as a Caregiver. My responsibilities include helping my residents dress, complete hygiene tasks, assist them with their meals, and assist them with activities.
I also assist the Licensed Nurse and Medication Technician in getting samples for testing and obtaining vitals which include blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, temperature, respirations, and weight.
I have taken courses concentrated in health sciences such as microbiology, anatomy and physiology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and psychology. I have also taken classes regarding patient care and other prerequisites such as English courses, math courses, and sociology courses.
