SMHS operates an 800 bed hospital in Sarasota, a stand-alone Emergency Room in North Port, and 20 other business offices and urgent care centers throughout Sarasota County. As Director/Chief the team is responsible for the safety and security of 90,000 patients, 6,200 employees, and over 3 million square feet of property.

SMHS employs 54 Public Safety Officers – 26 are armed police officers, 24 are entrance screeners, and the remaining are committed to Emergency Management.

Secretary - Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) - Maryland

Appointed by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan as Secretary of DPSCS to manage a $1.4 Billion Budget with over 10,000 employees in January 2015. DPSCS manages 23 State Prisons, 45 Parole and Probation Offices, the Baltimore City Jail, the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS), the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commissions (responsible for the certification of 8,000 Police Officers and 18,000 Correctional Officers), the Maryland 911 Board, the Criminal Injuries and Compensation Board, the DPSCS Internal Investigation Unit (50 Police Officers), the DPSCS Intelligence Unit (50 Intelligence Analyst), Administrative Services Bureau (Human Resources, Information Technology, Procurement, Budget, Finance, Fleet, Food Services), the Maryland Parole Commission, the Maryland Sex Offender Database, and multiple support service units. DPSCS is responsible for safely managing and directing more than 21,000 inmates in prison and for supervising more than 40,000 on Parole and Probation throughout the State.

• Established the Secretary's Inmate Death Review Committee to review all inmate deaths (more than 50 per year) and changed Department policies as warranted
• Closed the oldest antiquated jail in the US and lead the Nation in prison population reduction through prison reform
• Worked closely with the Maryland US Attorney's Office and other prosecutors in addressing widespread corruption resulting in the indictment over 200 individuals

Deputy Chief of Police - City of Sarasota Police Department (SPD) - Sarasota, FL

Selected to be the Deputy Chief of Police for the City of Sarasota where responsibilities included directing 176 officers and 41 civilian support staff through five direct reports to carry out the vision of the Chief of Police. SPD operated with a $29 million budget. Responsibilities included oversight of all criminal investigations and patrol responsibilities.

Security Director - University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) - Baltimore, MD

Selected to be UMMC's Security Director to bring progressive change and leadership. Developed an outstanding, well trained, security operation that resulted in 7,000 employees, visitors and patients who occupy 700 beds feel secure and safe. Created a policy manual for all aspects of patrol and criminal investigations.

Deputy Secretary/Lieutenant Colonel - Maryland State Police (MSP) - Pikesville, Maryland

Served twenty four years with the MSP rising to the rank of Deputy Superintendent/Lieutenant Colonel. Held several command positions to include managing Homeland Security, Criminal Investigation Division – Homicide, Drug Enforcement, Sex Offences, Patrol – 24 Maryland State Police Barracks, Internal Affairs, Executive Protection, and the Deputy Secretary of Juvenile Services. MSP employs 1,600 Troopers and 800 civilian support staff with a $260 million budget.

• Overhauled the entire Internal Affairs process to include the creation of a Police Involved Shooting Response Team and a Use of Force Review Team to hold Troopers responsible for their actions on and off duty
• After the attacks on America in 2001, created the Homeland Security Bureau focused on collaborative investigations with the US Attorney's Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) with a supporting intelligence gathering unit and a critical infrastructure protection unit
