I am a bilingual professional with experience in software development, healthcare, and business operations. Earlier in my career, I worked as a programmer in Japan and enjoyed solving problems and building systems that people could use. I later moved into other fields, but my interest in software development has remained.
I am now completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology, which has strengthened my understanding of how people think, communicate, and make decisions. I would like to return to software engineering, update my technical skills, and learn from experienced developers through hands-on work. I bring prior programming experience, a willingness to learn, and the ability to collaborate with people from different professional and cultural backgrounds.
I began my career in software development in Japan, where I worked for approximately 10 years on business systems using languages and tools including Java, Delphi, Natural, and Microsoft Access/VBA. My work involved understanding requirements, developing and maintaining applications, and solving technical problems.
I later worked as a dental hygienist at a U.S. Navy hospital, providing patient care and education while communicating with patients from different backgrounds. As an office manager, I handled administrative, human resources, accounting, and logistics responsibilities. Most recently, I worked as a global mobility specialist, coordinating employee immigration processes and working with employees, managers, attorneys, and external vendors.
Across these roles, I have developed problem-solving, communication, organization, and cross-cultural collaboration skills. I am interested in bringing these experiences back to a software engineering career.
I am completing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). My coursework has strengthened my research, data analysis, critical thinking, and communication skills. I also earned an associate degree. Earlier in my education, I attended a vocational school in Japan, where I studied programming fundamentals. I later applied and expanded those skills during my career as a programmer.
