About
Institutional equity sales trader and electronic sales professional with 25+ years covering 29 institutional trading desks across Boston's largest buy-side firms. Built books by landing accounts on high-touch execution and growing them into algorithmic trading, EMS deployment, commission management and research distribution — the same relationship, both sides of the desk. Working knowledge of algo strategy selection, broker wheel design, TCA and pre-trade analytics, block crossing networks, and current U.S. equity market structure.
Series 7, 24, 57 and 63.
Experience
Principal at Independent (2021-01 – Present)
Trading a proprietary book of U.S. equities and listed options, with an emphasis on index options and dealer-positioning strategies. Tracking the current U.S. equity market structure cycle — the proposed rescission of Rules 611 and 610(e), the 2027 tick size and access fee compliance dates, and the expanded Rule 605 execution-quality regime.
Vice President, Sales at Four Springs Capital Markets (2025-03 – 2025-12)
- Sourced and developed new institutional relationships in the Delaware Statutory Trust (DST) investment space, activating a network built over a 25-year career.
- Identified and facilitated senior-level introductions between institutional decision-makers and firm leadership.
Executive Director — Equity Sales Trading at Instinet, LLC (2007-06 – 2021-04)
Institutional agency broker (Nomura Group) providing electronic execution, algorithmic trading, EMS technology, commission management and research to asset managers and hedge funds.
- Designed an execution strategy that became a firm product. Identified a recurring liquidity pattern that existing strategies were not capturing and built the prototype in Newport, refining it hand in hand with a client on their live orders. The design was asymmetric — capture size at the client's price against a benign benchmark, or no trade and no footprint. The quantitative team researched the logic and embedded it into one of Instinet's key algorithmic strategies, adopted across cap tiers on orders running into the millions of shares.
- Sold and supported the full electronic suite into Boston's largest institutional desks — algorithmic strategies, the Instinet execution wheel, DMA, Newport EMS deployment, commission management, and Nomura research.
- Designed algo solutions to client constraints. Helped design custom algo wheels both domestically and globally.
- Grew accounts from high touch into low touch. Landed on cash execution, then expanded the same relationship into algos, EMS, CSAs and research — selling to head traders, portfolio managers, quantitative teams, operations and compliance.
- Drove adoption of proprietary execution technology. Translated the algorithmic execution wheel into measurable execution-quality improvements for head traders and PMs, converting a complex product into a business case each stakeholder could act on.
- Sold the block crossing ATS at client sites and orchestrated multi-million-dollar global program trades, aligning internal trading, technology and operations with client personnel across time zones.
Sales Trader at Collins Stewart, Inc. (2005-08 – 2007-06)
- Covered major Boston-area institutional investment firms, distributing research and investment banking product alongside customized execution.
- Negotiated and introduced a commission-sharing program that expanded existing client relationships and increased share of wallet.
Sales Trader — Founding Employee at Pulse Trading, Inc. (2001-06 – 2005-07)
Early-stage electronic agency brokerage; joined as one of the first employees. The firm later built BlockCross, the buy-side block crossing ATS subsequently acquired by State Street and today operated by Instinet.
- Sold execution into the buy side — agency order handling for Boston-area institutional accounts, high-touch and electronic. What clients were buying was expertise navigating the electronic marketplace, then fragmented across competing ECNs.
- Executed institutional orders across multiple third-party platforms — FlexTrade, LAVA, REDI, NYFIX Millennium, Instinet — and developed customized algorithmic strategies for individual clients.
- Built and grew the institutional client base from zero in a high-growth, resource-constrained startup with no established playbook.
