I have been workingbfor the past 20 years as a Human Factors and Ergonomics Specialist (Graded at Management level) . I was lucky to be given a role of establishing Human Factors function in Transnet Freight Rail in order to improve human safety to ensure compliance to all relevant human factors regulations, standards, and industry best practices. I love seeing practical solutions being implemented in the workplace to ensure safety of employees.
With the work I have done in the railway industry, conducting human factors risk assessments in different operational areas, i have developed risk-mitigation strategies and ensured that they are being implemented and maintained. I have passion to work with employee as they're always there to give feedback about their work environment. During my years of establishing human factors, i was developing all necessary business strategies, policies, procedures etc. in order to comply.
Interface with other stakeholders to influence their programmes and processes to comply with human factors rquirements i.e., Occupational Health Management, Wellness management and Occupational Hygiene. I have developed the Human factors related training i.e., Human factors management, Lifestyle Management training, Fatigue Management training and the training was provided to employees to understand the human factors pratices. The work I do requires a lot of travelling, onsite data collection, analysis and writing of comprehensive statutory reports and also conducting audit on Transnet Integrated Safety Management.
I have mentored a lot of Youngsters (Young Professionals in Training) that I have seen many of them do exceedingly well in their careers.
I am currentl working in Transne Freight Rail. I joined Spoornet in 2004 as a Human Factors Specialist, ten (10) years later I was promoted and appointed Human Factors Manager.
I have gained a lot of experience in understanding the business model of Transnet and how to design the human factors business plan, key objectives which helps to develop key focus areas.
Networking is very key especially with clients to be able to know their needs.
