Huma Naim

I am currently a Biology Co-op student at Toronto Metropolitan University with a strong interest in laboratory science and hands-on research environments. I have always been drawn to science because I enjoy understanding how things work and being involved in practical, detail-oriented work. Through my coursework, I have developed experience working carefully in laboratory settings, following procedures accurately, and maintaining organized documentation and workspaces.

Although much of my previous work experience has been customer-facing, those roles have helped me build skills that transfer strongly into a laboratory environment. Working as a receptionist and administrative assistant taught me the importance of organization, accuracy, multitasking, and maintaining detailed records, while my experience at Cineplex strengthened my ability to work efficiently in fast-paced team environments and maintain clean, organized spaces under pressure. As a tutor, I developed strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to adapt quickly when helping others learn and solve problems.

What excites me most about a laboratory assistant role is the opportunity to contribute to the daily operations that keep a lab running smoothly. I enjoy structured environments that require attention to detail, teamwork, and responsibility. I am eager to continue building my skills in microbiology and laboratory practices, including preparing reagents and solutions, maintaining laboratory equipment and inventory, supporting documentation processes, and following Good Laboratory Practices and aseptic techniques.

I am someone who genuinely enjoys learning, takes pride in being dependable, and is excited to grow within a collaborative laboratory environment.

Receptionist/Administrative Assistant at Parkside Therapy (December 2020 to February 2021)

• Scheduled appointments for clients over the phone, email, text messages, and in-person
• Greeted incoming visitors professionally and offered knowledgeable assistance
• Supported various administrative duties by proofreading, transcribing, making copies, invoicing and updating logs
• Helped set up rooms and equipment for the next client

Cast Member at Cineplex (August 2021 to August 2023)

• Demonstrated multitasking skills by working at the concession and on the floor
• Managed inventory or sale of concessions merchandise
• Received payment by cash, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits. Issued receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers
• Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas and complete other general cleaning duties
• Greeted customers entering the establishment and assisted them by providing information and resolving their complaints
• Worked with other team members to serve guests quickly during busy times
• Consistently provided friendly guest service and heartfelt hospitality

Tutoring, Self-Employed (March 2023 - Present)

• Currently enrolled in sciences, aiming to become a trauma surgeon
• Taught a variety of age groups, starting from kindergarten to grade 12. I worked one on one with my students and built trust with them
• Socially interacts with new clients daily, and has the ability to communicate
• Have taught the Quran to children, and read French books to kids as well. Mainly worked on French grammar, mathematics, biology and chemistry with the older students
