With the completion of my first Master’s degree at Donghua University in Shanghai, I acquired plenty of communication skills. For example, I recruited, scheduled and tested 120 participants encompassing 96 Chinese and 24 American university students to collect data for my graduation thesis. In 2022, I graduated from the University of Victoria (UVic), and was granted Master of Education (MEd) with a focus on educational administration. Through this Leadership Studies MEd program, I deepened my understanding of leadership, administration, equity, inclusion, diversity, social justice, democracy, and so on.
From May to September in 2021, I worked as a Graduate Orientation Intern (Co-Op) at UVic’s Office of Student Life to help new students, especially foreign students, foster a sense of belonging and preparedness, and facilitate their transition to UVic. Through this position, I was trained in various aspects, such as Microsoft Office Suite, interpersonal abilities, administrative skills, workshop facilitation, formal writing, project and time management, decision making, meeting scheduling, event planning and assistance, conference arrangement, organizational skills, and so on, which can help me implement projects of this position as well.
Additionally, I am experienced in data management. For instance, when I was an employee of TOSHIBA Electronics, I liaised with each department to collect sales statistics before I analyzed and organized them into spreadsheets. In order to ensure that data in my sales reports were accurate, I had to pay attention to detail and find information that was missed. At UVic, I also worked successfully with the UVic orientation team to plan and arrange UVic’s Graduate Student Orientation and ThunderFest (a campus information fair).
