I’m Ellen, a BAPT (British Association of Play Therapists) play therapist with five + years' experience working with children, young people, and families. I hold honours degrees in social science and psychology, both of which continue to shape and inform my therapeutic practice and approach.
Originally from Ireland, I relocated to the UK to complete my play therapy professional training at the University of Roehampton. That decision reflects not only my dedication to this work, but also my commitment to creating a therapeutic space that is culturally aware, inclusive, and respectful of each child’s background and experience. Guided by the belief that no child exists in isolation, I am passionate about working closely with parents, carers, and other key people in a child’s life.
I am currently based in Wimbledon and primarily work across South and South West London, though I am happy to discuss options in other areas.
I work in school and community settings, offering sessions in environments that feel familiar and comfortable for the child. I provide both one-to-one and group-based support, while also working alongside the adults around the child to strengthen understanding, connection, and confidence.
British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT) play therapist with extensive experience supporting children with complex emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs across primary school and community settings. I have delivered child-centred, creative, and arts-based interventions designed to promote emotional regulation, resilience, and self-expression. I am highly experienced in collaborating with SENCo teams, teachers, and families to promote holistic wellbeing and continuity of care.
Skilled in therapeutic assessment, clinical reporting, and reflective supervision. Prior to qualification, I supported children and families within disability and social care contexts, facilitating inclusive community engagement and personal development. Founder of Embrace Play Therapy, a developing private practice offering tailored therapeutic support to children, families, and schools.
Holds an MA in Play Therapy (Distinction) from the University of Roehampton, with comprehensive clinical and theoretical training in child-centred play therapy and the arts therapies. Completed a qualitative research dissertation exploring the potential impact of messy play on therapeutic presence, awarded 92%. Academic and practical components included extensive clinical placement hours, supervision, and a 30-hour Tavistock infant and child observation.
Also holds a QQI Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills (Distinction) from the Children’s Therapy Centre, and a Higher Diploma in Psychology (First Class Honours) from University College Dublin, providing a strong foundation in developmental, child, and adolescent psychology.
