With ~5 years professional experience in Cyber Assurance, I hold both academic and practical cyber knowledge, happily researching, testing, and reporting, while providing advice and support to ICT through the application of cybersecurity principals, tools, and techniques. Having gained from previous roles an in-depth working knowledge of operating systems, hardware, software packages, along with cloud and web technologies, I took the decision to advance my skill-set, focusing on cybersecurity. Returning to study, I achieved a GCHQ certified Cybersecurity Master's Degree with Distinction.
A proponent of automation and AI integration, I have a strong interest in all things IT, thriving where research is required.
Cyber Assurance Officer at Police Scotland (2021-11 – Present)
Currently employed in a WFH Cyber Assurance role, I work alongside technical development teams and third-parties (ranging from vendors to the Home Office) to complete in-depth research and assessment on proposed technology and projects. This leads on to vulnerability assessments and pentesting of systems before producing reports for both technical and non-technical audiences. The advice and recommendations are for ICT projects that range from two-week upgrades, to multiple reports for programmes that span several years, covering vendor, bespoke and cloud systems.
Operations Technician / Desktop Support / Deployments at Fife College (2012-06 – 2019-12)
An evolving and fast paced role requiring a mix of IT skills to provide hardware & software fixes, scripted automations, package building, deployments, network maintenance & OS adjustments. With no dedicated SOC team, I dealt with cybersecurity issues including the CIA of data, AD access rights, firewalls, IOS config for network infrastructure, malware eradication, and user awareness.
Web Designer at Self Employed (2008-04 – 2012-06)
Freelance web design often working in Flash Action Script. I created websites for small companies as well as building Flash for other web designers found through online agencies. I also produced and manipulated images for websites and performed a small amount of audio engineering.
During my time being self-employed, I took on part-time roles in Waterstones and the Digital UK TV Switchover, as well as taking time-out to backpack around Europe. Previous to gaining my Honours Degree I worked in a number of different customer service jobs including assistant manager in a Ladbrokes, and several backpacker hostels.
