As the technical manager at Fittingly, I oversee the technical design team who are responsible for carrying out virtual surveys with customers, and finalising CAD specifications for manufacture. I carry out the quality assurance of the designs produced, to ensure specifications are correct, feasible and as intended. I gather data on errors to give continuous feedback to designers, and I have developed a design curriculum to provide a resource on best design practice.

I carry out regular training sessions with the team, which includes content on design approaches, analysing design and installation issues, and delivering excellent customer service. I maintain a calm, professional and positive working environment by setting high expectations, as well as being approachable and dependable. I set achievable goals, ensuring the team are motivated and productive, and check in regularly to ensure we are on track.

I support them with roadblocks, problem solving, or customer escalations that may prevent an order from progressing. I feel it is important to encourage team members to use initiative, take ownership of their work, as well as involve them in helping to shape their working practice. I have built strong working relationships across teams, supporting sales, planning, manufacture and customer service.

As Fittingly are part of the Sharps Furniture Group, this extends to collaborating with the Sharps Bedrooms teams. This has been key in ensuring customers experience a smooth journey, and to develop my own knowledge and understanding of the processes, roles and responsibilities across the wider business.
