Kyle Maloney

My name is Kyle Maloney,

I graduated with a Masters of Social Studies Education from UCR in 2021. I have been teaching middle school World History in Hayward for the past 3 years after achieving my dream of moving to the Bay and more recently finding a home in San Francisco.

While I love the school and community that I work for and would prefer to stay, my Ex-Partner has left me with a substantial Mortgage to afford and due to FTE draw downs in the HUSD district I do not have in writing that I will receive the upgrade from .6 to .8 FTE that will be required for me to afford my home on my own.

Besides my life situation, I am a US Army Veteran and experienced a deployment to Afghanistan. My negative experiences as a LGBTQ soldier before the repeal of DADT have made me highl critical of the US Military Industrial complex and in part shaped my Socio-Historical understanding of US History.

While I am not here to convince anyone of a particular narrative I am very critical of US institutions as I believe any citizen should be.

If I sound like a candidate for your school's History program I would love to have a deep discussion with your History department about your school's philosophy for teaching US history in this modern age and how to manage it in a way to prepare students for an increasingly complex and diverse future.
