I am a fourth-year Doctor of Pharmacy candidate at Virginia Commonwealth University, with an additional Aging Studies Certificate reflecting my passion for geriatric care. My unique journey into pharmacy began while working as an ophthalmologist scribe and technician at Mandell Retina Center, where I discovered my interest in geriatrics and managing complex medication regimens.
My professional experience spans diverse healthcare settings. During my two years at Mandell Retina Center, I developed a deep appreciation for the unique healthcare needs of older adults. This led me to pursue pharmacy school with obtaining inpatient pharmacy experience at Bon Secours St.
Mary's Hospital, where I worked as a pharmacy intern for two and a half years. Through this position I gained valuable skills in dispensing, non-sterile and sterile compounding, and central pharmacy operations.
Upon returning to Virginia Beach for my fourth-year clinical rotations, I joined Sentara Norfolk General Hospital as a weekend pharmacy intern, further expanding my experience in sterile compounding while also developing pharmacy administration skills through various intern projects.
Throughout my education and work experience, I've cultivated a special interest in deprescribing for older adults and pharmaceutical compounding. I am passionate about reducing medication burden in geriatric populations and providing personalized pharmaceutical care that addresses the complex needs of this vulnerable population.
My diverse background across ophthalmology, hospital pharmacy, and specialized geriatric studies has prepared me to approach patient care with a holistic perspective, considering not just the clinical aspects but also the quality of life impacts of medication management.
