I believe that all children are innately curious and have a desire to explore and learn about their world. It is important to create a safe and exciting learning environment which stimulates joy and wonder, stokes curiosity, and nurtures a love for learning. A certain degree of measured risk-taking is also important. It encourages students to embrace challenges and to understand that falling is merely a part of learning and growing. It provides the opportunity to reflect, develop perseverance, and strive for personal excellence. My role as an educator is to facilitate this journey of learning, gently guiding and nudging their growth utilizing best practices and making informed decisions regarding teaching and learning. Lastly, I believe the utmost importance of an educator is to instill a zest for lifelong learning in students. The world is constantly changing and knowledge is not static. If we succeed in instilling this drive for learning, then I believe we have equipped our students with the most important skill there is.
Hello! I am originally from Canada and have now spent over 20 years teaching in international schools in Hong Kong. Teaching and learning alongside some amazing educators from around the world have enriched me greatly as a teacher. The exchanges in best practices and teaching philosophies have been dynamic; challenging me to question and reflect, to change and adapt, and to be both teacher and learner so as to provide the very best learning experience I can for my students and an educational role model for my peers.
