Joshua Branson

I am a translator, subtitler, captioner, proofreader, and researcher with professional and academic experience in accessible and translated cinema. I subtitle and translate Italian films and screenplays into English, and I caption and proofread English-language films. Alongside these practices, I hold a PhD in Translation Studies.

My research interests include collaborative practices, non-normative captions and subtitles, material analyses of production, and (critical) disability studies. I have published academic chapters on film translation and accessibility, and spoken at academic conferences and film festivals. Having recently completed the PhD, I am refocusing on translation and accessibility practice, and I also am interested account and project management roles.

I hold a PhD in Translation Studies and an MA in Audiovisual Translation from the University of Roehampton, and a BA in Modern Languages (Italian and Spanish) from the University of Bath. I am a member of the Galician Observatory for Media Access, a research group based in Vigo, Spain.
