Sophie Folkard

Welcome! I am a final year biology student who has discovered a passion for coding and IT. I found my aptitude for learning and teaching specialist software during my experience with confocal microscopy on a work placement.

Later, my time in first line IT support and as an R data analysis tutor showed me how rewarding it can be to help others with technology. I am also interested in learning coding languages, reading nonfiction, and digital art. I am keen to develop a postgraduate career in IT support or data analysis by building upon my previous experience.

• 5 months experience as an R data analysis tutor: I provide an R drop-in help service for staff and students at the university, and run multiple workshops for postgraduate and undergraduate students to teach beginner and intermediate data analysis within Rstudio.
• 1yr 4 months experience in 1st line technical support: As a student digital champion, I provide face-to-face and online peer support to students via direct technical help, support, and guidance where appropriate. I promote and raise awareness for the tools and systems available to students. I liaise with students and university staff to give insight into improving the university's digital experience.
