AS400 SME at IBM Singapore Pte Ltd (2016-01 – 2018-09)
As part of the transformation team after AIA SG outsourced their infrastructure services to IBM, I handled the regional migration/consolidation of the various AS400 systems from Hongkong, Vietnam, Philippines and Sri Lanka to the data center in Singapore.
- Lead the trasformation AS400 related activities to conform to the new support model under IBM.
- Performed knowledge transfer of operational support tasks and documentations to the IBM Global Data Center team in China who will takeover the BAU support functions in the new support model after IBM takeover.
- Assist in AS400 server relocation and new AS400 setup in the new AIA DC space.
- Plan, test and migrate the disaster recovery servers in SG to HK. Some of the business application servers retained the used of Mimix replication for DR solution which was done in coordination with Vision Solutions.
- Plan, test and migrate regional AS400 Prod/UAT/Dev and disaster recovery servers from other AIA regional offices in Asia by using enterprise storage (IBM DS8000) strategy.
AS400 Technical Support at AIA Singapore Pte Ltd (2013-10 – 2015-12)
As a key resource of the Infra Technology Department supporting the AS400 platforms, I have been involved in the high profile project of migrating the main business applications from Mainframe legacy systems to the Integral Life application which went live last Jan 2015. The project also involves system migration of various applications from Hongkong to Singapore in the process. I have worked closely also with IBM vendor in setting up the new AS400 servers in the new AIA data center and with EMC for the enterprise storage for the new machines.
- Daily administration of IBM AS/400 servers (Model 740) and software.
- Develop, document and maintain procedures for system utilities, such as backups (daily, weekly, monthly), restores, performance tuning and other system configurations.
- Write documentation and procedures for Computer Operations, Production Controller and Technical Support teams.
- Plan, execute and document disaster recovery procedures using Mimix Global/Enterprose replication software.
- Change requests planning, securing approval and implementation.
- Perform sever hardening in accordance with the guidelines for server check-in to the Managed Shared Services security team and assist in security matters to comply to audit requirements.
- Plan and perform Program Temporary Fix installation.
ITO Service Delivery Consultant III at Hewlett-Packard Singapore (Sales) Pte (2007-12 – 2013-10)
As part of Global Delivery HP Services AS/400 team, I am responsible in providing technical support to various HP AS/400 clients like Pfizer, General Motors (GM), Fonterra, P&G and various local accounts namely Singapore Exchange and Singapore Workforce Development Agency. I am also involve in new deal pursuits in Singapore providing insights on the AS/400 operations and support model that HP is currently providing to it's various clientele.
- Facilitate the planning, implementation and securing necessary approval of AS/400 activities, operational function and system hardware and software changes. The scope will require attending Tower Leads and Change Advisory Board meetings to present and get the corresponding approval for all AS/400 related changes or implementation.
- Analyze, investigate and gather related information to provide solutions on incident and service calls tickets via OVSD (OpenView Service Desk)/ HP OpenView Service Center.
- Involve in the periodic Disaster Recovery planning and implementation for HP AS/400 customers. At the initial stage of my tenure, I've also been a key part in the successful marketing of AS/400 DR services to various SGX brokers. I've provided the documentation, actual DR execution and testing with the clients until final signoff from the customer.
- Actively involve in several GM transformation projects such data center move in Australia from IBM data center to HP data center. I played a key role in the AS/400 consolidation project involving Production and Development AS/400s in Australia and New Zealand to be migrated in two i525 machines with seven LPARs in Singapore.
- Recommend and implement periodic cumulative & hiper PTFs installation based on the latest IBM fixes releases.
- Providing Level 3 support to HP AS/400 clients.
- Recommend solutions on operational and system issues to improve system performance which would then be translated to effective and continuous business operations.
ITO Service Delivery Consultant III at GMP (assigned to Hewlett-Packard) (2006-08 – 2007-12)
AS/400 Administrator at Optimum Solutions Pte. Ltd. (EDS- ABN AMRO Account) (2006-03 – 2006-08)
Part of the team mainly responsible in the system administration of various AS/400 machines (consisting of 40+ partitions) to support 13 countries in the Asia Pacific region where ABN AMRO bank operates. Major tasks involve 24-hour Production technical support to the Regional Processing Center also based here in Singapore and preparing of test environments for the different application systems testing and implementation for the various countries. I've been involved also in the data center relocation project (from ABN AMRO's data center at OCBC building to Global Switch).
Systems Support Analyst at Aviva GI Pte. Ltd. (2005-01 – 2006-03)
Responsible in the system administration of one i5 machine Model 550 with three partitions, 2 P-series machines model p615 (AIX), Win NT and Win2000 servers, Lotus Notes and several intel based servers for business, financial services & e-commerce application servers. These cover Oracle, MQ Series, Data Mirror and database servers (SQL and DB2). Provides regional IT support on the different platforms or Singapore, Hongkong, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines offices.
Some of the tasks on Data Mirror administration involve refreshing of tables when deemed necessary, setting up new target systems and creating new tables to be mirrored, changing of selection criteria or primary keys when required, problem determination, solution & prevention when target system failure occurs, TS UDB upgrade and applying patches, EA installation & configuration.
Systems Support Analyst at Aviva Asia Insurance Pte. Ltd. (2002-01 – 2005-01)
Responsible in the system administration of one i5 machine Model 550 with three partitions, three AS/400 Model 720 machines and one 830 AS/400 machine with three logical partitions, 2 P-series machines model p615 (AIX), Win NT and Win2000 servers, Lotus Notes and several intel based servers for business, financial services & e-commerce application servers. These cover CODA Financial, CM/400, Oracle, MQ Series, Data Mirror and database servers (SQL and DB2). Provides regional IT support on the the different platforms for Singapore, Hongkong, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines offices.
- Creation of testing environments for business applications (Polisy/400, Life/400, Group/400 & FSU/400) SMART upgrade, and migration purposes (ICS & CGU database and application merging).
- Perform software and Program Temporary Fixes (PTF) installation on AS/400s.
- Involve in the different application testing for the AS/400 Operating System upgarde (1.e. V4R4 to V4R5 and V4R5 to V5R1 & V5R1 to V5R3).
- Document and carried out testing on plans concerning business recovery procedures in case of disasters.
- Implementation & maintenance of security guidelines based on the auditors' (internal & external) recommendations. This is done in cooperation with the Asia Security manager evaluation & suggestions.

- Directly involve in the LifeAsia testing & implementation for CGU China office. The creation, testing of environments & initial development programming were done in the Singapore ARO office and restored on China site for implementation. Also, handled the Hongkong Life Asia migration from Hongkong site to Singapore office.
